Dr. Erika Fuchs died
Dr. Erika Fuchs died on Friday, April 22nd at the age of 98. Erika Fuchs is well known for her famous German translations of Disney comics and especially those done by Carl Barks. This is a great loss for the German comic community. I offer condolences to her relatives and friends.
Erika Fuchs was born in 1906 and started translating comic books in 1951, when she became chief editor of the German Micky Maus Magazine. She retired in 1988. A short biography (in German) can be found here.
Update: More Articles: Spiegel Online (German), Der Standard (Austria, German), Ehapa Verlag (German). Scott Hansons explains that it was because of Erika Fuchs that Donald Duck is so popular in Germany (English). More blog-entries can be found via Technorati.
